What is Hibiki 12 Year Old Bottle & Background
Hibiki is a premium Japanese blended whisky from Suntory. The name Hibiki means resonance or echo in Japanese.
The 12 Year Old expression was introduced in 2009.
As a blend, Hibiki draws from malt whisky (from distilleries such as Yamazaki Distillery, Hakushu Distillery) and grain whisky (from Chita Distillery).
The blend historically included whisky matured in a variety of casks, sometimes including casks previously used for plum wine.
The bottle is the classic Hibiki faceted design one of the more iconic whisky bottles globally which reflects the brands emphasis on harmony, aesthetics, and the art of Japanese whisky.
However very importantly the 12-year-old edition was discontinued (as part of a broader shift away from some age-statement blends when the brand introduced non-age-statement variants like Japanese Harmony).
Because of discontinuation + increasing global demand for Japanese whisky, Hibiki 12 Year Old has become a collectors item rather than a regular shelf whisky.
